This photograph captures an “Ambalama” in the Matale countryside, a main district in the Central Province. An Ambalama is a traditional resting place for the weary traveler to take shelter, rest and sleep awhile in ancient times. I took this during my visit to Sri Lanka last year and gives me a sense of realization as to why my grandmother had opted not to move into the city with us. Looking in all directions you see endless greenery and a lovely view of the blue sky, the cold breeze gives you chills and the emotions are simply hard to put into words.
Each time I visit my grandmother, I go for a walk on the fields and wonder if I have missed out on something so amazing while growing up in the city? May be if I get another chance to grow up I would like to be in such a place but as much as I like to I’m not sure whether I’ll be able to adopt to the difference of lifestyle between urban and rural.
